"LSC is pleased to announce that it is accepting new applications for its Herbert S.
The 2011 Soros Justice Fellowships Program is now accepting applications. Lawyers, advocates, grassroots organizers, activist academics, and others with unique perspectives are encouraged to apply. The fellowship projects must reflect one or more of the criminal justice fund priorities.
George Soros, chairman of the Open Society Institute, announced that he will give $35 million to support low-income families in New York with buying school supplies and clothing for the new school year. This money will go to the State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and is in addition to the $140 million in stimulus dollars under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families emergency contingency fund of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The Open Society Institute (OSI) requests proposals to support state-based alliances that advocate for greater transparency, equity and accountability in the allocation federal recovery (stimulus) dollars at the state level. OSI is accepting proposals from the following states: CA, MS, NY, NC, TX and WI.
Deadline: August 28, 2009
Amount: up to $500,000 per state
The Kresge Foundation is offering bridge loans of $250,000 to $500,000 to human services organizations, including legal aid services, in response to the effects of the economic crisis. Announcement does not include an application deadline but indicates that they are making every attempt to fast-track the application process.
